Yes, your application for the UM Dollars for Scholars program must include a $1,000 check from your church on a church check (no personal checks will be accepted). The check must be accompanied by either the scholarship application or the certificate of confirmation (included in the PDF application form). To learn more about the program, see our UM Dollars for Scholars page.
If the school you choose to attend is a United Methodist-related school but does not participates in the UM Dollars for Scholars program, then you may still be awarded $2,000 (the portion contributed by your church and matched by UMHEF). If you choose to attend a school that is not UM-related, then you will forfeit the scholarship and the $1,000 check from your church will be returned to the church. You may find a list of UM-related schools participating in the UM Dollars for Scholars program here.
Yes, but you can only receive one award from UMHEF per year. If you apply for both, we will award you with the higher award. We want you to get the most support available! If it is determined that the General Named Endowed Program would offer you more scholarship than the UM Dollars for Scholars Program, we will return the $1,000 church check to the church.
It depends on the individual scholarship and school type, but applications for most of our scholarships must be submitted by March 1 each year. (Note: You must re-apply for a scholarship each year to be awarded for a new school year.) Additionally, you should typically be notified of a final outcome by May 1 via postal mail.
