Do I still need to submit an application for UMHEF scholarships if I have already submitted one to GBHEM?

Yes. UMHEF is an entirely separate non-profit foundation and not connected to the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) of the United Methodist Church. To be considered for an UMHEF scholarship, you must submit an application and required materials directly to us. You can find our application information here.

Can I apply to both General Named Endowed Scholarship & UM Dollars for Scholars?

Yes, but you can only receive one award from UMHEF per year. If you apply for both, we will award you with the higher award. We want you to get the most support available! If it is determined that the General Named Endowed Program would offer you more scholarship than the UM Dollars for Scholars Program, we will return the $1,000 church check to the church.

How do I know if I can get $2,000/$3,000/$4,000 from UM Dollars For Scholars?

Fri, 08/15/2014 - 02:25 -- skip

Any student sponsored by their local church (initial gift of $1,000) will have the gift doubled by UMHEF, bringing the total to $2,000. If your United Methodist-related school and UM conference foundation participate in the UM Dollars for Scholars program, each can contribute an additional $1,000 for a potential total of $4,000.

When is the application deadline?

Thu, 05/30/2013 - 10:46 -- skip

It depends on the individual scholarship and school type, but applications for most of our scholarships must be submitted by March 1 each year. (Note: You must re-apply for a scholarship each year to be awarded for a new school year.) Additionally, you should typically be notified of a final outcome by May 1 via postal mail.
