Lillian Furey

Lillian always wanted to become a teacher, but she had multiple learning disabilities. After overcoming many challenges, she realized that God had given her “Superpowers", not disabilities, so she could be fully equipped to serve children with special needs. Growing up and being very involved in The United Methodist Church, Lillian dreamed of attending UM-related, Florida Southern College (FSC), but she knew God would have to provide a way for her financially. Her prayers were answered through your gifts and UMHEF’s scholarship program. Because of your generosity, Lillian is realizing her dream of a college education at FSC. She earned a 4.0/President’s List as a freshman, and is entering her sophomore year this fall.

Lillian writes…”My disability will never go away, but I believe that if it wasn’t for my ‘Superpowers’ I would not truly know the person I am. Attending college and ultimately graduating with a Bachelor’s in Education will be a hard-earned win for me. The UMHEF scholarship I received has allowed me to embark on that journey to achieve my goal. I will work diligently to earn my degree in a field that serves others like me, Elementary Education; and I will ensure that all learners reach their full potential, just like my teachers did for me.”

Please give now to make a difference for our UM students in need of scholarships to attend UM schools!
