Know any UMC students attending United Methodist-related colleges/universities/seminaries that are STILL looking for scholarships? Look no further! (Or at least try this first till you look for every scholarship you can...we get it, college is expensive!)
You know our main scholarships...
1. General Named Endowed Scholarships (competitive...considered GPA, financial need, etc.)
2. UM Dollars For Scholars (started with $1k home church scholarship and is matched by some schools & foundations up to $4k total!)
now drum roll................... For those who need ANOTHER OPTION...you're in luck!
3. Foundation Merit Scholarships
The same criteria applies, to be eligible you must:
-Be a member of the UMC for atleast 1 year
-Be attending on of our United Methodist-related institutions of higher education (ie: prep schools, colleges, universities, seminaries or theological schools...you can see a list of all our schools here)
-Preference will be given to ethnic minority or 1st generation college students (But you should still ask to be considered even if you're not!)
How do you apply?
Contact your school's Financial Aid office...they are in charge of the applications and nominating students. Tell them you want to apply for "UMHEF's Foundation Merit Scholarships." If they don't know what you're talking about...email umhefscholarships@umhef.org and we'll refresh their memory! It is a short application that will require an essay highlighting your accomplishments and a picture of you (atleast 2"x3"). Easy peasy.
How much moolah are we talking?
Every college and university can provide one scholarship of $2,000 of any undergraduate or graduate level (no PhD). Every seminary/theological school has three scholarships of $3,000 to provide to current students. The scholarship will be sent directly to your school and applied towards your student account, which usually covers tuition and room/board.
The deadline for nominations is OCTOBER 1st...so don't delay! Most financial aid offices are open DURING THE SUMMER, so you should contact them today!
