The UMHEF scholarship applications for the 2017-2018 school year are officially open on www.umhef.org! This starts out the 51st year of providing scholarships to UMC students who are seeking higher education at United Methodist-related schools, colleges, universities & seminaries. Last year we provided over $2.3 million in scholarships nearly 1000 students. Our Grand Vision is "that is be economically possible for any qualified United Methodist student to be educated at a United Methodist-related institution of higher education." Our program continues to grow every year, so early application is encouraged before the March 1st deadline*.
There are two main programs for this application period - Due March 1, 2017* (Two-year college deadline is June 1, 2017 for UMDFS). You may apply for both, and we will do our best to provide you with the highest amount, if you qualify for both.
1. General Named Endowed Scholarships: What you may consider a "normal" scholarship program...you fill out an application and get scholarships! This one application will have you considered for over 100 scholarships. This scholarship is competitive, it considers your GPA, financial need and other factors like ethnicity, school, and disabilities. Fill out online or paper application and mail in: Official transcript, 2 Letters of Recommendation (one from a pastor, one from a teacher/professor/instructor), Photo & Essay describing your leadership in the church & community. You can find the Online General Named Endowed application here or paper application here - please only submit one type.
2. UM Dollars For Scholars: This program begins with a $1,000 scholarship from a UMC (on a church check). If you are chosen, UMHEF will match the scholarship to total $2,000. Based on your given school and UM Annual Conference foundation, your scholarship may be matched up to $4,000. This is not a competitive scholarship, so GPA and financial need are not considered. Fill out online application and mail in: church confirmation form, Photo & biography of your activities/service/leadership, $1,000 from any UMC on a church check. You can find the Online UM Dollars for Scholars Application here or paper application here - please only submit one type.
