WAYS TO GIVECHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITIESYou can secure a guaranteed income for life by making a contribution to the Foundation. Our Charitable Gift Annuity will pay you (and a survivor, if desired) a fixed dollar amount when you make an irrevocable gift to help us further our mission. The amount of income you will receive will be determined by the size of your gift and your age at the time of your contribution. (See article regarding charitable gift annuities in Benefactor vol. 2, no.2 in the Resource Library.) CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUSTSA charitable remainder trust allows you to make a gift using a variety of assets, especially those that have increased in value, because all capital gain tax is avoided. The gift will be invested to pay the donor an agreed upon rate of return, and at the conclusion of the income period, the balance remaining in the trust will be used to provide scholarships. Income is paid either at a predetermined rate and amount (annuity trust), or based on a set rate times the value of the trust as it is revalued each January 1st (unitrust). SECURITIESGifts of appreciated securities or stock can be one of the best ways to make a gift and receive tax advantages. If your stock has been owned for more than one year, you may deduct the average selling price of the stock on the day of transfer as a charitable contribution. A gift of stock may eliminate capital gains taxes. REAL ESTATEGifts of appreciated real estate are appropriate gifts to the Foundation. An outright gift now or later may be an important component in your estate planning. INSURANCELife insurance is an excellent way to give to the Foundation. In order to qualify for maximum tax benefits, UMHEF should be the owner/beneficiary of the insurance policy. WILLSEach person needs a will. Planning for the distribution of one's property and resources is an act of stewardship and forethought. When a person dies without a will (intestate), each state has a formula for distributing the assets, but the formulas never include a church or charity in their provisions. A bequest is often the best way to extend your spiritual values beyond your earthly life. (See wills article in Benefactor vol. 1, no.1 in the Resource Library.) Gift planning seminars are offered in cooperation with local churches and annual conference foundations. Please contact us for more.
